How do solar schools work?
Energy Off-setting installations:
Energy off-setting installations, are installations that are sized strategically to off-set a school’s energy usage and energy bills.
These systems save the schools money and have a positive impact on the environment.
Educational-only installations are systems that are installed strictly for educational purposes, and not intended to save the school money or lower energy usage.
These systems work great for schools that don't have an ideal roof available, or favorable energy rates for solar.
WAYS TO INCORPORATE SOLAR AT YOUR SCHOOL:
Solar can be incorporated into schools and classrooms through several approaches, icluding on-campus solar systems and/or curriculum integration in classrooms. On-campus solar systems are very powerful because they allow students to learn about solar energy generation first-hand.
There are two types of solar installations a school can invest in: "Education-Only" installations, or "Energy Off-setting" installations. See below for more information.
Energy Education for Classrooms:
Once your system is installed (or even if you don't install a system on your school) you can further "solarize" your school by adding renewable energy curriculum into your classrooms.
There are a lot of curriculum resources on our Curriculum Page. We encourage you to check them out!
